Local Authorities

Local authorities are key partners for UN-HABITAT because they manage the world’s cities.

Our collaboration with local authorities is at all levels – from technical cooperation projects at city level, to capacity building in collaboration with training institutions and policy dialog at major events like the World Urban Forum.

Read about our collaboration with local authorities and their associations through the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities and the United Cities and Local Governments

Capacity Building

UN-HABITAT supports local authorities through a number of capacity building programmes.
These include our e-learning programme and our training guides and manuals targeted at local elected leaders

Networks

In 2008,UN-HABITAT launched the innovative Sustainable Cities Development Network SUD-Net to help achieve livable, productive, inclusive, environmentally friendly cities.
