Maya graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto in 2012, where she studied Business Technology Management. She currently works as a Business Technology Analyst at Deloitte Canada.

During her educational pursuits, Maya served as President of AIESEC Ryerson, a chapter of the world’s largest student run organization. She also founded a non-profit organization, Initiatives A Plus, committed to making global professional connections for youth through a global mentoring program. Maya’s role as Miss AfriCanada from 2010-2011, gave her a platform to further engage in community development activities in Canada and Africa. She has also spoken at various conferences including the National Youth Empowerment Conference in Nairobi Kenya in 2009, UN-Habitat’s World Urban Youth Assembly in Rio de Janeiro Brazil in 2010, and TEDxRyersonUWomen in 2011. Currently, Maya is the only youth board member for the Canada-Southern Africa Chamber of Business where she was vital in starting a student membership program. She aspires to be an active catalyst towards the proactive use of technology to combat economic and sustainable development issues.
