Chinese President Hu visits UN headquarters in Africa Bookmark and Share

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday visited the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi during a state visit to Kenya marking the last leg of a five-nation tour to the United States, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Nigeria.

President Hu was received by Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, and Shafqat Kakakhel, Deputy Executive Director and Officer in Charge of the United Nations Environment Programme and senior UN officials.

After a closed session of talks, Mrs. Tibaijuka said: "We were very pleased to receive the President of China, Mr Hu Jintao at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi today. In his statement he stressed the importance of working for human settlements and protecting the environment. He reiterated his country's commitment to continue to work closely with UN-HABITAT and UNEP in order to achieve these goals."
