Faecal Sludge Management Policy Symposium-cum-workshop

Location: Dakar, Senegal

A Symposium on faecal sludge management policy will be held from 9-11 May 2006 in Dakar Senegal. This workshop will be a platform to share experiences across countries and continents on the challenges of faecal sludge management, particularly in the context of limited public resources faced by developing countries. The main objective will be to identify key issues and challenges in faecal sludge management that need to be addressed to reduce the human, social and environmental toll of poor sludge management.  The Symposium will identify, from experience, effective policies and approaches to address these issues and challenges. The workshop will also identify concrete steps to be can be undertaken by participants to strengthen faecal sludge management locally, nationally, regionally and globally.

The symposium is a joint initiative of The National Office for Sanitation of Senegal (ONAS),
Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries at the Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (EAWAG/SANDEC) and International Water Association (IWA). The event is co-financed by UN-HABITAT, The World Bank, Bank Netherlands Water Partnership (BNWP), Water and Sanitation Program (WSP), and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
