Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, held talks in Nairobi recently with Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in Nigeria, the highest ranking elected Nigerian political figure to visit the agency He was introduced to her on 18 September by Mr. S.O. Omene, the Nigerian Permanent Representative to UN-HABITAT on the sidelines of the Africities summit in the Kenyan capital. Governor Obi, in office for six months after winning a legal battle he fought over state elections contested in 2003, has shown a keen interest in UN-HABITAT and proving backing for the country’s Habitat Programme Support Office. Mrs. Tibaijuka, who commended his approach to human settlements problems, urged the governor to ensure that he adopt a pro-poor approach in urban management. |
