Promoting Local Economic Development through Strategic Planning, Regional Training Workshop for Arab States, Cairo, Egypt 19 - 23 November 2006

A regional training of trainers on promoting local economic development (LED) through strategic planning for the Arab states region took place last November in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop, which brought together 9 countries aimed to create a pool of trainers/facilitators who would promote and support local economic development initiatives in the region. In addition, it was an opportunity to reflect on the possible use and adaptation of the UN-HABITAT LED tools in local and national contexts, and draw action plans for possible implementation and follow-up. The LED series has recently been translated into Arabic and the workshop will serve to validate the version before its publication. At least 25 participants representing governmental and non governmental institutions in the region were expected to participate. The workshop was organised by UN-HABITAT in collaboration with International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Urban Studies Institute (UTI) Egypt.
