UN-HABITAT in partnership with Govt. of India is organizing first Asia-Pacific Ministers Conference on Housing and Human Settlements from 13-16 December 2006 in New Delhi. The conference is addressing several issues for sustainable urban development in the region including the issue of the delivery of MDG for water and sanitation in Asian region.
WSIB of UN-HABITAT in cooperation with WSP of World Bank, ADB Manila, WaterAid London, and APWF Japan is preparing a Vision 2020 paper on water and sanitation for Asia-Pacific region. The draft paper which has been prepared will now be discussed and finalized in the proposed Expert Group Meeting in New Delhi on 15 November 2006. The EGM will also identify a list of case studies / best practices in local action which will be supplementing the Vision 2020 paper. The organizations participating in the EGM not only include ADB, WSP, WaterAid, APWF but also senior officials of the Government of India and National institutions such as National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and Sulabh International, New Delhi. The Vision document shall provide an action plan and agenda for consideration and adoption during the Ministerial Conference in New Delhi.
