World Urban Forum Underscores Business Community’s Interest in Sustainable Cities

The World Urban Forum held in Vancouver on 19-23 June 2006 saw a strong emphasis on the private sector, now recognized as an essential contributor to urban development. As such, the private sector needs to be better incorporated into planning, building and management of cities. Participants at the Forum recognized that cities are largely the product of private investment and the Business Roundtable held on 19 June proved a successful platform to discuss burning issues regarding the crucial role of the private sector in achieving a sustainable urbanization.
