The Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, has thanked the Government of India for successfully hosting the First Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APAMCHUD) from 13-16 December 2006 and for the continued support for UN-HABITAT.
Mrs. Tibaijuka made the remarks when receiving the credentials of the new Permanent Representative of India to UN-HABITAT, H. E. Mr. Parampreet Singh Randhawa on 14 February at the agency’s head office.
Mrs. Tibaijuka noted that the first Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mr. Arcot Ramachandran, was from India and that the country has been playing a very constructive role in the development of the agency. She briefed the envoy on the projects and programmes of UN-HABITAT in India, which are being undertaken in cooperation with the Government of India, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other partners in the country.
Mr. Randhawa assured the Executive Director that India would continue to play an important role to ensure the continued growth of UN-HABITAT. |
