UN-HABITAT Water Sanitation and Infrastructure Branch in collaboration with the Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme (KENSUP) of the Ministry of Housing and Maji na Ufanisi (an implementing NGO) have been in the process of designing an access road (the Kibera Spine Road) and formation of Housing Cooperative in Soweto East village of Kibera. Jointly with KENSUP Secretariat, a ground breaking ceremony for the road and official launch for the housing cooperatives have been planned to take place on 25th October 2007 in Soweto Village Kibera beginning 9:00 am. The intervention is part of the on going Kibera Integrated Water Sanitation and Waste Management (K-WATSAN) Project.
