For the second time in as many years, UN-HABITAT last week was awarded two prestigious prizes at the 16th edition of the Serbian Salon of Urbanism.
UN-HABITAT was garlanded twice, for the Municipal Territorial Information System Pilot Projects and the City of Nis Development Strategy.
UN-HABITAT, together with the Municipalities of Cacak, Kraljevo, Nis, Valjevo and Kragujevac received the first prize for Municipal Territorial Information Systems Pilot Projects in the category of “Application of Information Technologies to Planning”. The agency is helping the five municipalities develop and upgrade their territorial information systems.
The other award was jointly received by the Mayor of the City of Nis and the Head of UN-HABITAT Office in Belgrade for the formulation process of the City Nis Development Strategy, in the category “Research and Studies”.
The Urbanism Salon is traditionally held on the World Urbanism Day, 8 November.
Last year the Council awarded UN-HABITAT for the implementation of the Settlement and Integration of Refugees Programme (SIRP) funded by Italy. The programme develops sustainable settlement and integration solutions for low-income refugees and other vulnerable households. It also helps build capacities at municipal and central levels for replication and upscaling. |
