UN-HABITAT and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will hold a joint exhibition booth at the fourth session of the World Urban Forum in Nanjing, China on the urban environment at which they plan to present both agencies’ latest publications on climate change. UN-HABITAT’s Sustainable Cities and Localizing Agenda 21 Programmes are currently phasing out. One of the main outputs will be an interactive DVD on Teaching Guidelines on Environmental Planning and Management for education and training institutes. The new Sustainable Urban Development Network (SUD-Net) will build on the experiences of SCP and LA21. One of the network’s initial components is the Cities in Climate Change Initiative (CCCI). Both will be introduced at a meeting at the Forum. At the fourth session of the World Urban Forum in Nanjing, China in November 2008, UN-HABITAT and its sister agency, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will hold a joint seminar on “Cities and Climate Change: the road from Bali to Copenhagen”. The meeting is expected to gather city representatives from developed and developing countries, urban researchers and practitioners, and representatives from international organizations to discuss ways of strengthening the role local governments in the post-2012 climate agreement. |
