Stockholm, 16 Aug 09
The Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance organized a seminar on August 16 at the Stockholm International Water Week in cooperation with International Water Association (IWA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), USAID-Advancing the Blue Revolution Initiative (USAID-ABRI) and Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA).

The seminar aimed at highlighting the success factors of WOPs from the different regions and was attended by more than 100 participants. It was a rare occasion to have a comprehensive overview from the different regions on what is going on all over the world in terms of Water Operators' Partnerships. Some interesting case-studies of training and capacity building were presented from Asia (Asian Development Bank) and from Latin America (InterAfrica Bank of Development), whereas the speakers from ACWUA and AfWA focused their presentations on the establishment of the regional platforms. In the presentation by the Asian Development Bank, the following were identified as success factors for training: facilitated matching, personal commitment, Initial diagnostic, agreed work plan and focus, regular communications, and bringing all training partners together to share experiences.

The issue of WOPs generates interest from very diverse stakeholders, which was reflected in the intense debate during following the panel discussion.

You can find the presentations on the website of the Stockholm World Water Week
