Homelessness knows no colour, no creed and must be tackled through concerted efforts, American rock star Jon Bon Jovi said on Monday. In an address at the World Habitat Day celebrations in Washington DC, Jon Bon Jovi said it was the duty of all to help the homeless get decent housing. “Homelessness affects all, the old and the young, white and black, Christian and Muslim,†he said. At a press conference later, Bon Jovi said that his forceful presence in the area of advocacy on homelessness was informed by the belief that it would help raise awareness about that problem. “Homelessness is something we can address and help the affected get decent shelter he said. I hope my involvement will help raise awareness in that area,†he said. UN-HABITAT Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka said although the housing challenge was huge, it could be addressed. “The challenge is huge but not insurmountable and if we all do our part we can help people get affordable housing,†she said. |
