Gender and Women Roundtable:Towards Safer Cities for Women

The Gender and Women Roundtable is a regular event that takes place during the World Urban Forum, held once every two years. The objective of the Roundtable is to recognize past successes in promoting gender equality and inclusiveness in cities, and to discuss present and future challenges.

The theme for the 2010 Roundtable is “Towards Safer Cities for Women,” and discussion will seek to identify key factors for making cities safer and more gender-inclusive.

To help unite all stakeholders towards this goal, the main output of the Roundtable will be a set of recommendations and actions for international organizations, national governments, municipal governments, local community organizations, local community organizations and grassroots women’s organizations.

Partners: Huairou Commission, Women’s Affairs Ministry of Brazil, UNHABITAT, UNIFEM, Women in Cities International, Women and Habitat Network (Latin America), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Centre for Asia Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP), Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE), Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) and the Women in Local Government Network in Latin America (FEMUN).
