2006 Kenya Award Ceremony
The MILGAP Kenya National Workshop and Gala Awards Ceremony will be held on 29 and 30 August, 2006 at the Grand Regency Hotel in Nairobi.The National Workshop will be opened by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Solomon Boit while the Gala Awards Guest of Honour will be the Minister for Housing, Hon. Soita Shitanda. Other distinguished guests from the private, public, non-governmental, diplomatic and donor community have been invited.
The first, second and third winners in the national category will receive cash awards of 3000, 2000 and 1000 dollars respectively, which will be used solely for the dissemination of best practice. All winners will receive trophies and certificates of achievement and will be included in the UN-HABITAT/ MILGAP database, which is linked to the global database of best practices.
2006 Tanzania Award Ceremony
The MILGAP Tanzania National Workshop and Gala Awards Ceremony will be held on 6-7 September, 2006 in Dar es Salaam.
2006 Sub-Regional Award Ceremony
The MILGAP sub-Regional Workshop and Gala Awards Ceremony will be held on 20 September, 2006 in Nairobi. The first, second and third winners in the regional category will receive cash awards of 5000, 3000 and 2000 dollars respectively, which will be used solely for the dissemination of best practice.
A special session will be held within the programme of the Africities Summit to present the various selected best practices for the MILGAP sub-regional award which will then be recognized during an awards ceremony on the same evening. The overall sub-regional category winners will receive cash awards determined by the national and sub-regional selection committees.
2004 Kenya Award Ceremony The Awards Gala night was held on 16 July 2004, at the Grand Regency Hotel . It was attended by more than three hundred guests, including Ministry of Local Government officials, representatives of the national steering committees of the programme from Uganda and Tanzania, participating projects, partnering institutions and media. Twenty five projects mounted exhibitions and were later presented with certificates of participation. The three winning projects were then presented with certificates of merit, trophies and cash awards
2004 Uganda Awards Ceremony
The Award Ceremony was held on Friday 14th May 2004 at Hotel Africana, Kampala. The Guest of Honour was Hon. Tarsis B. Kabwegyere, Minister of Local Government. About 100 participants attended and included representatives of Central Government Ministries, Local Governments, UN-Habitat, National Working Group members from Kenya and Tanzania, Donors, NGOs, The Private Sector and the award winners. The participating projects made exhibitions of their activities before and after the award giving ceremony through photos, documents and physical products. The three winning projects were then presented with certificates of merit, trophies and cash awards 2004 Tanzania Awards Ceremony
The award ceremony was held on 16 June 2004 at Dar es Salaam International Conference Centre (PPF Towers) and was attended by close to 100 guest including the Minister for Local Government, representatives from the associations of Local Authoerities Tanzania, the media, training and research institutions , Tanzania Gender Network and Non Governmental Organiaztions.Uhunzi Asili Mpya emerged the overall winner, while Kijitonyama Development Community and Faraja Trust Fund became the second and third winner respectively.The winners received certificates of merit, trophes and cash awards.
2004 Sub-Regional Awards
MILGAP Sub-regional Awards was held in Nairobi on 5th November 2004 at the Intercontinental Hotel. On the morning of the awards day, a community activity was organized for those that had come to Nairobi to participate at the awards ceremony. This was a procession from City Hall area to the Globe Round About in Nairobi for a tree planting and clean-up exercise. The participants, who included officials of the Safer Cities Programme of UN-HABITAT, were all dressed in t-shirts emblazoned with the MILGAP and UN-HABITAT logos. The procession was flagged off by His Worship the Mayor of Nairobi. Exhibitions were then held at the Intercontinental Hotel before the announcement of results.
The awards ceremony was presided over by Kenya’s Minister for Local Government, Honourable Musikari Kombo, and attended by, among others, the Minister for Local Government in Uganda – Prof Tarsis B. Kabwegyere ,his Excellency the High Commissioner of Tanzania, the Ford Foundation Regional Representative, senior officials from UN-HABITAT, senior central and local government officials (Kenya), representatives from diplomatic missions in Nairobi, officials from associations of local government authorities and representatives from the private sector and the civil society. During the awards ceremony, the projects were presented with various trophies and certificates as follows: - All the nine participating projects were presented with Certificates of Participation
- The winners in each of the eight categories were presented with certificates
- The three overall winners were presented with certificates, trophies and cash prizes of USD 5000, USD 3000 and USD 2000 for the first, second and third positions respectively
