World Habitat Day Agenda

The Department of Housing and Urban Development in collaboration with UN-Habitat are hosting the events taking place on October 5. People throughout the United States and around the world have joined together to celebrate World Habitat Day 2009. There are celebrations taking place in over 50 countries around the world, and we welcome the public to participate in our Regional celebrations and Affiliated Events organized by WHD Working Group members.

The official kick-off for the 2009 World Habitat Day global observance will feature remarks by members of the World Habitat Day U.S. Honorary Committee. The Opening Ceremony will also include a special video created by YouMedia, celebrating the voices of Chicago youth, Building and Housing Social Foundation (BHSF) World Habitat Award Presentations and 2009 Habitat Scroll of Honor Presentations.

    Hosted by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Howard University, this event will showcase a variety of perspectives in addressing the 2009 World Habitat Day theme "Planning Our Urban Future." The program begins with principal presentations on "Planning Our Urban Future," eventually giving way to a structured response session which will allow invited guests to share domestic and international innovations that promote public engagement in planning livable communities.
