“Urban Trialogues” launched in Brussels

Urban Trialogues, a new publication on inclusive planning for sustainable urban development, was launched on 6 December at the Palais Egmont in Brussels by Daniel Biau, Deputy Director of UN-HABITAT, and Mr. Kris Panneels, Head of the Belgian Multilateral Cooperation.
Human settlements expert honoured

UN-HABITAT and ACP Group sign cooperation agreement

UN-HABITAT and the Brussels-based African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting sustainable urbanization and the eradication of poverty in ACP countries.

UN-HABITAT Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka on Monday hailed Professor Wangari Maathai on winning the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize saying that her award showed recognition of the courage and endeavours of African women.
Sustainable Urbanisation

Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor of Lagos, West Africa’s biggest city, opened Wednesday’s dialogue on sustainable urbanization at the World Urban Forum with a call on national governments to commit more resources to cities so that they can cope with the challenges of globalisation.
King of Thailand receives UN Award

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was presented with the Habitat Scroll of Honour Award at a special ceremony on Wednesday by Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT. The hand-crafted gold plaque was presented during an audience at the Krai Kangwon Palace.
Britain honours a tireless campaigner for better human settlements

In one of his first public international functions as Britain’s new Secretary of State for International Development, Hilary Benn, last week marked World Habitat Day by presenting Zena Daysh with UN-HABITAT’s Scroll of Honour award for a lifetime dedicated to improving human settlements around the world.
City of the Future: Opportunities for Europe

Anna Tibaijuka, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, this week told the 22nd governing council of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-HABITAT’s sister organisation, that the two Nairobi-based UN bodies would work with a “profound sense of common purpose” to strengthen the nexus between the natural and human-made evironments of the world.
