India to step up funding to UN-HABITAT
	New Delhi, 30 Sept 11 The Government of India this week said it would increase its funding to UN-HABITAT. The announcement was made after Executive Director Dr. Joan Clos held talks with Kumari Selja, India's Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Culture.

Big names sign up to new private sector advisory board
	Amsterdam, 28 Sept 11 The World Business Council for Sustainable Development, VEOLIA Environment, Nomadeis, BASF, This is Africa, Siemens, GDF-SUEZ, JAO Design International, ARUP, the PENN Institute for Urban Research, and the Financial Times joined UN-HABITAT in Amsteram earlier this month for the first meeting of the agency's new Urban Private Sector Advisory Board hosted by Arcadis.

The passing of a giant – Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Maathai
	Nairobi, Kenya, 26 Sept 11 The first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, Wangari Maathai of Kenya, died overnight at a Nairobi hospital. Her organization, the Green Belt Movement, said Wangari had been undergoing cancer treatment. She was 71.
