UN-HABITAT’s Safer Cities Programme and eThekwini Municipality are jointly organising an international conference in the South African city of Durban aimed at keeping up efforts to reduce crime and insecurity in towns and cities around the world. The conference on Sustainable Safety: Municipalities at the Crossroads will be held from 25-28 November.
Brazil holds national cities conference

Brazilian cities will require $4 billion dollars over the next two decades to ensure that poor people have adequate housing, shelter and sanitation, the country’s Minister of Cities, Olivio Dutra, told a conference looking into ways of alleviating urban poverty.
Canada pledges new funding for UN-HABITAT’s Water and Sanitation Programme in Africa

The Canadian Minister of International Cooperation, Ms. Susan Whelan today signed a memorandum on behalf of the Canada Fund for Africa of the Canadian International Development Agency committing over US$10 million (15 million Canadian dollars) to UN-HABITAT's Water and Sanitation Trust Fund. She congratulated UN-HABITAT for the success of the first part of the Water for African Cities programme.
