	Nairobi, 19 Oct 07 Mr. Soon-hong Choi, the newly appointed Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, responsible for Information Technology will attend the fourth Web4Dev conference in Nairobi, to take place from 28-30 November, 2007.

	Nairobi, 11 Oct 07 The new Permanent Representative of Israel to UN-HABITAT, Mr. Jacob Keidar, on Wednesday presented his credentials to the Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka.


Two years after earthquake, a successful reconstruction programme
	Islamabad, 10 Oct 07 Two years after a devastating earthquake in Pakistan Administered Kashmir, UN-HABITAT and Pakistani officials marked the occasion this week by describing the reconstruction and recovery programme as one of the most successful of its kind anywhere in the world in recent years.


University of Colorado and UN-HABITAT in youth research partnership
	New York, 9 Oct 07 The University of Colorado Children, Youth and Environment Centre and UN-HABITAT week signed a World Habitat Day agreement to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations with the aim of better understanding the role of youth in cities globally. This agreement comes as the world is recognizing the important role of youth, who make up to 70 percent of developing country populations, and are a key community to engage if the goal of this years HABITAT day of safe and just cities is to be reached.


Grand finale for World Habitat Day in Monterrey, Mexico
	Monterrey, 8 Oct 07 World Habitat Day 2007 closed in a grand finale on Friday in theMexican city of Monterrey as part of the Universal Forum of Cultures. This occasion marked the end of a week of activities all around the world that began in The Hague on 1 October.


Holland’s youngest city councillors present a “Millennium Municipality Declaration”
	The Hague, 8 Oct 07 UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka was presented a “Millennium Municipality Declaration” on World Habitat Day last week by a group representing the youngest members of municipalities accross The Netherlands.


Working together in making Kosovo cities safe and just
	Kosovo, 8 Oct 07 Various activities were held in different parts of Kosovo to mark the 2007 World Habitat Day organized jointly by city municipalities and UN-HABITAT’s Municipal Spatial Planning Support Programme ‘Making Better Cities Together’. The focus of the activities was on looking for ideas which can be implemented through cooperation with various stakeholders and would lead to increased safety of women and children; safer public spaces open to various social, ethnic, and age groups; safer school environments and disaster prevention.


Mexican Professor wins UN-HABITAT Lecture Award 2007
	Mexico City, 4 Oct 07 Professor Martha Schteingart of El Colegio de Mexico, (Mexico City) is the winner of this year’s UN-HABITAT Lecture Award. The Award recognises outstanding and sustained contribution in the field of human settlements. Professor Schteingart delivered the winning lecture entitled “Urban Problems and Policies in Latin America: Truths and Fallacies” on 4 October, 2007 during the international conference on ‘The State of Safety and Security in World Cities, 2007’ in Monterrey, Mexico.


Pakistani earthquake victims receive financial assistance
	Mansehra, 4 Oct 07 The first batch of Pakistani rural landless who lost land as a result of the 2005 earthquake last week started receiving financial assistance from the government of Pakistan for the purchase of new land. As a result of the earthquake thousands of families were unable to rebuild their houses due to landslides and flooding which have destroyed their land.


Delegates gather in Monterrey to discuss urban crime
	Monterrey, 4 Oct 07 Over 600 delegates from some 42 countries drawn across the globe gathered in the Mexican city of Monterrey from Monday for a conference that is discussing urban crime and violence prevention. Those delivering key speeches at the opening of the meeting included UN-HABITAT's Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean
