Executive Director meets China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development
	Beijing, 12 Aug 08 China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr. Jiang Weixin, on Monday received UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka to discuss a wide range of housing matters and arrangements for the fourth session of the World Urban Forum scheduled in the Chinese city of Nanjing 3-6 November.


Teaching sustainable urban development
	Bangkok, 12 Aug 08 A group of 28 urban professionals from 15 countries in Africa and Asia gathered at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok on Monday at the start of a special two-week course on how to use city planning as a tool for sustainable development.


Film workshop for slum youth opens at UN-HABITAT headquarters
	Nairobi, 11 Aug 08 A week-long workshop on film-making organized jointly by UN-HABITAT and the National Film Board of Canada for youth drawn from slum areas in Nairobi opened at the UN-HABITAT headquarters Monday.


UN-HABITAT joins the Myanmar cyclone rehabilitation team
	Yangon, 6 Aug 08 UN-HABITAT, the Myanmar Engineering Society, and the Association of Myanmar Architects, has organized a design competition in the southeast Asian country to come up with the best disaster-resistant buildings possible for areas devastated in May by Cyclone Nargis. The storm, the worst in the country’s history, claimed countless thousands of lives when it destroyed wide swathes of lands and property in the Ayeyarwady Delta. Within days of the disaster on 2 May, UN-HABITAT joined the humanitarian country team to start helping rebuild homes and lives.


UN-HABITAT Executive Director to attend Olympics opening ceremony ahead of talks with Chinese Government
	Beijing, 5 Aug 08 UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, will attend the Olympic Games opening ceremony on 8 August ahead of talks with senior Chinese officials on how the agency can further support China at a time the country is experiencing the most rapid urbanisation in its history.

	Nairobi, 22 Jul 08 The Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, has commended the Government of the Republic of Korea for its excellent relations with UN-HABITAT. She made the remarks today while receiving the credentials of the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to UN-HABITAT, Mr. Han-Gon Lee, at her office in Nairobi.


Rwanda's first urban forum
	Kigali, 21 Jul 08 Rwanda’s Minister for Infrastructure, Ms. Linda Bihire, last week joined some 200 business leaders, local authorities, non governmental organisations and other experts at the country’s first National Urban Forum in the capital, Kigali.
