Researchers Roundtable: focusing on how to better coordinate urban research globally and how to support research in developing countries

In the Researchers Roundtable, the main point for discussion was the feasibility study for the Global Urban Research network. Issues brought up include the need to better define the network’s value added and develop a viable financing plan.

Habitat Partner University Initiative logo competition winner

A logo competition for the Initiative, instigated in partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, resulted in a winner after much deliberation, thanks to jury members David Fortin from Montana State University, Fiona Jack from University of Auckland and Victor Mgendi and Jane Nyakairu from UN-HABITAT.

Call for Applications - Preparation of Research Proposals rooted at universities in Eastern Africa

Based on a grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs targeting the Habitat Partner University Initiative network, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and UN-HABITAT are announcing a Call for Applications for seed funds to promote the preparation of Africa-rooted research proposals on urban challenges in Eastern Africa. Deadline for applications is 3 October 2011 at 0800 hrs GMT.

Clos hails new course on Millennium Development Goals

UN-HABITAT's Executive Director, Dr. Joan Clos has congratulated the Sapienza Universita' di Roma for introducing a high-level course on Sustainable Development and the Millennium Development Goals. An MA course on Sustainable Urban Governance and Peace

This is a new one-year Masters programme on Sustainable Urban Governance, Urban Resilience and Peace. Developed by UN-HABITAT in collaboration with the University for Peace, San José, Costa Rica, it enables students to learn about urban governance, Urban Risk & Resilience and peace, and give them the chance to meet those dealing with these matters on a daily basis.
McGill University students visit UN-HABITAT

Habitat Partner University Initiative holds 2011 e-forum

Habitat Partner University E-forum: Habitat Partner Universities, defining phase II of the initiative. The Habitat Partner University Initiative launches an e-forum in preparation for the Global Habitat Partner University Initiative meeting which is to be held later in the year. The purpose of the e-forum is to further define the way forward for the initiative. In four stages, the e-forum will explore key questions relating to the institutional structure, priority areas in the field of urban education, urban research and knowledge management. The e-forum will open on 17 January 2011.
