	Nairobi, 19 Feb 13 UN-Habitat launched the construction of a Multifunctional Clean Energy Centre at St. Christine Community School Centre in Kibera Kenya. The project which is funded by DANIDA and UN-Habitat, is a joint initiative by the local community, Under the Same Sky project, and Umande Trust in partnership with VE International (Denmark). It is the first of a series of Multifunctional Clean Energy Centres that UN-Habitat plans to construct in other Sub-Saharan African cities.

UN-Habitat and partners in second phase of housing Sri Lankan conflict victims
	Colombo, 28 Jan 13 UN-Habitat is extending its partnership with the European Union (EU), Government of Australia (AusAID) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to implement the second phase of the housing recovery project for conflict affected families. The project “Improving Living Conditions in Returnee Areas of Sri Lanka through Housing” will be implemented over the next 30 months- to mid-2015- in the North and East. The project will assist 4,000 conflict affected families in the districts of Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Batticaloa to reconstruct and repair their damaged houses.

	Port-au-Prince, 15 Jan 13 As Haiti marked the third anniversary of a devastating earthquake which claimed over 300,000 lives and left more than 1 million survivors homeless, UN-Habitat announced that it will broaden support to communities and institutions still trying to recover from the disaster. "The earthquake in Haiti in January 2010 was an unprecedented urban crisis, highlighting chronic vulnerabilities in the city and setting back its development," said UN-Habitat Executive Director Joan Clos in a statement marking the anniversary.

	Puntland, Bossaso, 7 Nov 12 Solid waste management projects and a solar street lighting project are improving sanitation, hygiene, health, environmental conditions, and living standards in three municipalities in Puntland – Bossaso, Gardho, and Garowe. The projects address service delivery in the solid waste sector and increase the protection of vulnerable urban populations through better street lighting. These activities are under the UN Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery, and it was established that only those municipalities with functional councils could receive the grant of USD 75,000.

Barduuro Market in Hamarweyne District was built in 1972, under the regime of Siad Barre.


Geographic information system project completed in Gardho
	Gardho, 7 Nov 12 After the successful geographic information system (GIS) property survey and database development intervention in Garowe District, Puntland, UN-Habitat Somalia has established a GIS property database for Gardho District. Gardho, like other districts in Puntland, lacks an accurate, up-to-date land and property information system, which is crucial for town planning and revenue collection.

Garbage collection service for four pilot districts in Mogadishu
