UN-HABITAT through its Community Development Programme initiated a process of assisting African countries to face up to the challenges in human settlements development. As a follow up to the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the programme in 1997 facilitated sub regional workshops where key stakeholders in human settlements development in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda mapped out joint strategies for improving the living conditions of people in the region. The publication is a report of the proceedings.
